Artwork of the Week
2/6/2010
Congratulations to Matthew Zehner for making the Artwork of the Week!  Seventh grade art students had the assignment to draw the ideal person as part of a unit on ways of representing people.  Several students did excellent work representing sports figures, celebrities and models.  Others chose to draw wildly interesting imaginary or thoughtful historical figures.  All were prepared to tell why the person they chose to draw was ideal.  Sometimes it was physical characteristics, and sometimes it was inner characteristics.  But only one person chose to draw Jesus!  And he did a great job!

St. Luke's believes that in the education process, fine arts provide an opportunity for each student to develop into a well-rounded citizen. That is, each student should be exposed to and develop skills in literacy, the arts (music, visual arts, and theatre), history, and citizenship.

The primary purpose of St. Luke's fine arts education is to educate all students to express themselves through art, music, or drama. Another goal of the program is to help students grow self-confidence and develop team-building and leadership skills.

Our fine arts program aims to foster an enjoyment in the arts, improve individual skills, increase knowledge of fine arts elements, and help students to understand the importance of personal experience and identity.

It is our conviction that a fine arts education is vital to fulfill the students' needs and enrich their lives.
