BUILDING FOR THE 21st CENTURYIn 1998, the Board of Trustees initiated a master planning process in order to determine the direction and growth of St. Luke’s School. As a result, a Capital Campaign was launched in 1999 to fund renovation and growth in the School’s physical plant and to increase the School’s Endowment.
The Campaign was completed in 2005, and the School thanks everyone who took part in making the campaign a success. Please read on to find out more about what this Campaign accomplished for the School.
ENDOWMENT
Donors gave over $2 million in endowment during this Campaign. St. Luke’s endowment, now at $12 million, remains one of the smallest of the Fairchester League schools. St. Luke’s must substantially increase the Endowment to ensure the long-term financial health of the School. Endowment growth is a major strategic priority in the coming years.
ATHLETIC CENTER
OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON MAY 8, 2004! Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the School was able to fund the construction of a new Athletic Center. The 27,000 sq. ft. facility was officially dedicated and opened on May 8, 2004 as part of the festivities for the 75th Anniversary Celebration.
The Athletic Center provides much-needed additional space for indoor sports teams to practice and play games and offers more opportunities for students to participate in new programs. The three-story facility features: a regulation competition basketball court, multi-purpose room, fitness center, training room, retractable batting cage, four international squash courts, and administrative offices and conference rooms. In addition, site work done in conjunction with construction of the Athletic Center created a separate bus loop, widened entrance driveway and car loop, and improved parking layout. This makes the campus safer and eases bottlenecks at pick-up and drop-off times.
PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON FEBRUARY 11, 2005! The Campaign successfully raised over $3 million for a new Performing Arts Center, to be located in the center of the main administrative building. Construction took eleven months. The Performing Arts Center is a place where our students can fully develop their capabilities in the performing arts. This facility benefits the entire school community by introducing drama and dance into the curriculum and expanding the music program, allowing for frequent assemblies for the upper and middle schools, making possible a speaker series to enrich student life, and enabling faculty and staff to conduct professional training and workshops on campus.
The 482-seat theater features:
- • technologically advanced lighting and sound equipment
• a control room
• 1,800 square feet of additional space for rehearsals when the lower two-thirds of seats are retracted under balcony seats
• vertical overhead flying system for movement of scenery
