St. Luke’s Commencement 2016

NBT
St. Luke’s School held its 87th Commencement ceremony on June 3, 2016. Sixty-six seniors representing 16 towns received their diplomas in front of hundreds of families and friends.

Valedictorian, Kat Adams of Norwalk, who heads to MIT this fall, told her class: "We have to be willing to take risks...Ultimately I believe that the tragedy of never truly taking risks is much greater than the miniscule failures of a life lived with bravery."

Saluratorial, Caleigh Steele, also of Norwalk, heads to Brown University. She spoke of St. Luke’s tight community: "I remind myself that we come from a small place, one that is small enough that we can tuck itwithin ourselves and carry it forward into our separate futures.  We can press forward without losing this sense of safety and community, without losing each other."

Head of School Mark Davis concluded the ceremony: "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve. You have walked under those words every time you enter St. Luke’s.  Yes, you go to college with academic skills and habits sharpened by working with great teachers.  Because of these teachers, you are much better prepared for college than most of your first-year classmates will be.  Just as important, this school has prepared you to be ethical, compassionate, truly kind adults...As you go forth, remember your talents and the blessings of your St. Luke’s education.  Remember these, and know that your talents and your education confer upon you the opportunity to make a difference by serving.  Discover the wonderful irony that through service to others you find personal fulfillment."
