Debate Team

St. Luke's Speech & Debate is an award-winning member of the National Debate Coaches Association and National Speech & Debate Association, representing the Hudson Valley District. During the September-June season, St. Luke's competes in the New York City-based American Debate League, and national circuit competitions in Public Forum Debate, Policy Debate, and speech events.
As members of St. Luke's Debate Team, students engage in different styles of debate with a focus on parliamentary debate. While learning to argue both sides of issues, debaters develop confidence, open minds, oratorical skills, listening and note-taking skills, and the ability to think and organize ideas quickly. Members compete throughout the school year at tournaments hosted by local leagues and universities.

St. Luke's Upper and Middle School Debate Teams are been very successful. Our debaters have been invited to the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Hong Kong and South Africa.

St. Luke’s is committed to its award-winning Debate Teams and has a dedicated debate coach: David Levin. In addition to overseeing the Upper and Middle School teams, he also teaches debate courses and works with the School’s Center for Leadership.
