Zach Pearce '08 Joins St. Luke's As Sports Information Specialist

For the past year and a half, St. Luke’s Sports Information Specialist, Dan Lyons has been publicizing the accomplishments of our Storm Athletic Program, athletes and teams. Dan’s contributions have been many including the launch of St. Luke’s Storm Blog, the Athletics Twitter feed (@stlukesstorm) and most recently, live streaming of several athletic events.

We are sorry to report Dan’s recent resignation (he secured a full-time position at a sports blog start-up). However, we are delighted to report that St. Luke’s alum, Zach Pearce ‘08, has stepped right in to fill Dan’s shoes for the remainder of the year. Zach had been working with SLS as a freelance writer, and jumped at the chance to grow his role. Like Dan, he will work approximately 20 hours each week.

With a background in education (he spent his first year out of school working with AmeriCorps serving in low-performing schools), and a passion for sports journalism (he was the writer and editor for the Union College hockey blog), Zach is heaven sent!

As St. Luke’s Sports Information Specialist, Zach is primarily a sports publicist and journalist. This position is modeled after a Sports Information Director (normally found only at colleges). Zach’s goal is to raise awareness (inside our community and beyond) of the strengths of the SLS Athletic Program, and specifically the accomplishments of our teams, coaches, and individual athletes. It’s important to note that Zach is not in charge of “spirit” at St. Luke’s (creating excitement before/attendance at games)--that is a student-owned and driven activity. However, he will certainly support student efforts via the blog and other social media tools.

In the coming weeks, Zach will attend athletic meetings and events (such as the upcoming Spring Athletic Kickoff on Thursday, Feb 27). Please introduce yourself - if he does not get to you first. Zach welcomes story ideas and photos. Please send information to pearcez@stlukesct.org.
