Civil Discourse

Freedom of Speech in the Digital Age

The struggle to apply free speech principles in digital spaces is endlessly complex and fascinating. Join St. Luke's Head of School Mark Davis and Vice-Chair of St. Luke's Board of Trustees Jennifer L. Foster, along with two guests actively shaping the future of public discourse and freedom of expression online: John Samples, Vice President of the Cato Institute and member of Facebook’s Oversight Board, and Katy Glenn Bass, Research Director at the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

Freedom of Speech in the Digital Age is part of St. Luke’s Civil Discourse Series. In the words of Head of School Mark Davis: "Listening respectfully to viewpoints that challenge our own, learning from people who have different life experiences than we do, and examining our own assumptions, even when that makes us uncomfortable, are essential to a civil society and critical for students to learn as they grow as leaders."

Past events in this series have included Power of Free Speech with Constitutional law expert Nadine Strossen and a two-part Political Discord and Civil Discourse discussion featuring Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleisher, CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota (both St. Luke’s parents), and Congressman Jim Himes.

This event is part of St. Luke’s Civil Discourse Series. Please contact Beth Yavenditti, Director of Global Education at yavendittib@stlukesct.org for more information.
This event is virtual and open to the public.
