Jim Rogers

Columbia School of Architecture - B.Arch., 1973
Yale University - B.A., 1968

Working with two partners, Jim started the architecture firm, Butler Rogers Baskett in New York City in 1979, where the bulk of their practice soon focused on private clubs and independent schools. Jim completed multiple master plans and individual projects for New York City Schools - Buckley, Chapin and St Bernard’s, many boarding schools including St Paul’s, Hotchkiss and Canterbury and a number of independent day schools such as Greenwich Academy, Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child and Far Hills Country Day School. In 2002, to better serve club and school clients in the greater metropolitan area, Jim opened an office in South Norwalk CT which continues practice as Rogers McCagg Architects and Interior Designers.

Major assignments in New Canaan have included two master plans and individual projects spanning 20 years for New Canaan Country School, where Jim also served on the Head Search Committee. Jim led a master planning effort and project completion for the recently (almost completed) expansion and renovation of the Country Club of New Canaan. Most importantly, Jim’s firm completed the St Luke’s master plan and has been responsible for all recent projects including the fireplace commons and dining hall as well as Science, Humanities and Art/Library wings, his final project before retirement.

Most of Jim’s volunteer work reflects a continuing commitment to independent education, including:
  • Trustee, Phillips Exeter Academy-16 years, 4 as President of the Trustees.
  • Chair, Principal search Committee Phillips Exeter Academy, 2000-2001
  • Trustee, National Association of Independent Schools-6 years
  • Vice Chairman, Horizons National Trustees (summer enrichment program for underserved children from inner cities, started at NCCS in the 1960’s, now expanded to approximately 50 sites nationally.)
  • President, Yale Golf Association, 6 years
Jim and his wife, Jayne Geiger (former Head at Far Hills Country Day School for 22 years), live in Morris Plains, New Jersey where Jayne is completing her 25th year as a school head, serving her third year as interim Head at Rumson Country Day School where she is facing the unexpected challenges of transforming her school to an online curriculum. They have a blended family of 5 children and 6 grandchildren.
