Football Puts In Dominant Display In Season Opener

The St. Luke’s football team kicked off the 2021 season with a fantastic 42-3 victory against King School on Saturday, Sept. 18.

The Storm made the short trip to the home of the Vikings and dominated the game on both sides of the ball. 

Matt O’Connor ‘22 found Matthew Goldstein ‘22 in the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown to open the scoring. O’Connor followed up with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Bulerin ‘22, giving St. Luke’s a 14-0 lead. Then Zion Profit ‘22 scored a TD on a 63-yard punt return as St. Luke’s raced to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Everett Andersen ‘22 found Bulerin for a 74-yard touchdown, with St. Luke’s adding another 15 points to go into halftime with a 36-0 lead.

Brandon Bulerin led the St. Luke’s offense with two touchdowns and 109 yards receiving. Roderick Olsen ‘23 and O’Connor also had touchdowns, as St. Luke’s posted 473 total offensive yards.

The St. Luke’s defense was commanding throughout the game, giving up just three points in the fourth quarter. Calvin Stuart ‘22 had an outstanding game, making 10.5 tackles, and Tani Smart ‘23 enjoyed an impressive league debut for the Storm, making seven tackles on the day.

Next Up: The St. Luke’s football team has its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 25, against Albany Academy. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
