Kochar Guides Cricket Team to Tournament Title
Congratulations to St. Luke’s sophomore Nihaal Kochar who captained his local Under 15 cricket team to the inaugural Surinda Plaha Memorial Youth Cricket Tournament.
Kochar, who plays for the Mad Dog Pups, was awarded Man of the Match in the semi-final game and named best batsman of the tournament in the season finale.
The tournament took place in New Milford, Connecticut, over two days. The Mad Dog Pups won all three of its contests and were awarded the trophy.
Kochar was proud of his team’s efforts: “It felt great for the team, whose hard work and effort paid off. It just shows that the more you learn from your mistakes in practice, the more you earn on the playing field. As the captain, I was continuously trying to motivate the team. We had some stressful moments in the middle of the inning, but it was very important to remain calm and composed.”
Kochar is extremely dedicated to the sport of cricket and plays every week. The Norwalk resident was delighted with his own performance: “Cricket is part of my blood and my passion, and it will continue to be my passion. I was really proud because this was one of the best innings I have ever played.”
The trophy and awards were given out by Pete Bass, the Mayor of New Milford, and Jay Singh, the founder of New Milford Cricket Club.
Mad Dogs, one of the oldest cricket clubs in Connecticut, was founded in 1990.
