What's Happening in the Middle School?

World-Renown Togolese/French Performer Brice Kapel at St. Luke’s

From US World Language Chair Jon Shee:

St. Luke’s students had a special opportunity to learn, sing, dance, and speak French with international Togolese/French composer and performer Brice Kapel.  Last year, 200 St. Luke’s French students attended a statewide concert given by Kapel. Due to the success of that experience as well as the sincere interest from our students in spending more time with Brice and his music, the teachers in the French program organized a special St. Luke’s-only event with him.

Brice Kapel performs and travels globally and has been composing and playing music since his teens. He gave three exciting, interactive workshops to both Middle and Upper School students and performed a rousing concert in the Forese Fireplace Commons for scores of cheering fans. St. Luke’s French students study Brice Kapel's most well-known songs in their classes, so they understand the meanings and contexts of the lyrics. It was fun having them sing along in French with him during some of the songs. Students of all levels of French study, as well as those not currently studying French, got involved in Q and A sessions with Mr. Kapel, many of whom asked their questions confidently "en français."
