8 Medals Won at Statewide COLT Poetry Contest

St. Luke’s students showed their strength with World Languages bringing home eight medals from the CT COLT Poetry Recitation Contest. The Council Of Language Teachers (COLT) is an organization that promotes language proficiency and the knowledge of world cultures.

Eighteen St. Luke’s students each memorized and recited a poem in a foreign language. World Language Teacher Leo Mahler shared, "Every one of our St. Luke’s contestants gave it their all, and took a risk and recited in front of the judges and students from all over the state."

1st place:

2nd place:
Amelie Warneryd ‘20, French HS-3
Carolina Warneryd ‘19, Spanish HS-5/6
Amelia Wyckoff ‘18, Latin HS-5/6
Amelia Wyckoff ‘18, Ancient Greek HS-2

3rd place:
Charlotte Gold ‘21, Hebrew HS-1
Cessa Lewis ‘23, French MS-1
Emma Seel ‘21, Chinese HS Heritage 9-10

A special thanks to Leo Mahler for guiding and chaperoning students through this competition and French Teacher Evan Downey for driving the second van when there were too many St. Luke’s participants to fit in one school bus.
