St. Luke's Literary Magazines: The Pendulum & The Palette

V Parker
St. Luke’s literary magazines The Pendulum (Upper School) and The Palette (Middle School) feature students’ poems, prose, photographs, drawings, and paintings.

As shared in the 2019 Pendulum’s Editor’s Notes: “This year’s theme of “crumbs” represents that which has fallen through the cracks of life; pieces of a whole which are often overlooked, yet can provide much insight into the nature of the whole itself. Upon observation, a crumb may appear more striking than the whole by virtue of the stories it can tell us, even in all its simplicity.”

Clara Pakman ‘19 served as Pendulum editor and Brody Menzies ‘20 was assistant editor. Steve Flachsbart and Jeorge Yankura served as faculty advisors to the Upper School publication. Flachsbart shared, "This year's Pendulum looks great. The art and overall layout are impressive, and the writing's pretty slick, too."

Middle School English teacher Frank Henson wrote in the foreword to the Middle School literary magazine: “A palette is a thin board or slab on which an artist lays and mixes colors. This Palette, the Middle School Arts Magazine, captures the creativity, vision, and invention that exists within our students. We are extremely proud of our middle school artists and writers, and we know you will be, too. Congratulations to all students whose work is included in these pages. Thank you for expressing yourselves.”

Digital versions of St. Luke's 2019 literary magazines are now available. We invite you to view and share the great work produced by our students.
