What's Happening in the Middle School?

Multi-School Robotics Competition

V Parker
From MS Science Chair Susan Bralower:

On Saturday, November 23, eight 8th grade students traveled to Hackley School in Westchester to participate in a robotics competition. They competed with the Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots they created in class. Students engaged in autonomous battles, based on programming, as well as in battles where they used remote controls to maneuver. Sixty-nine students from five Fairchester independent schools participated in this friendly competition.

Between rounds, the students worked together to troubleshoot issues with their code and to modify their designs. The students will have the opportunity to continue to prototype and improve their robots for two more competitions later in the year. All eighth grade students complete a unit on robotics as part of the 8th grade curriculum in physics and engineering.
