What's Happening in the Middle School?

History in the Making: A Middle School Project

V.Parker
Middle School history teacher Sarah Westerberg-Egan seized the current situation of living in the midst of a historical moment and gave her seventh and eighth graders this assignment:

During this historic time, you are primary sources. People are going to look at what you documented to learn about what life was like during this COVID-19 experience. Capture images about your experience living during a pandemic. Maybe it's going outside and capturing pictures of the stillness of nature or the quiet. Maybe it's images around your house about daily life or that show adjustments you've made. Use your lens (literally and figuratively) to share your unique perspective during this historic time.

Westerberg-Egan shared, “I told my students that future SLS classes may be referencing the images they are submitting for this assignment. They have approached this project through the thoughtful eye of a historian, and their feedback has been really positive.”
