What's Happening in the Middle School?

Eighth Grade Promotion Celebration

This past Wednesday marked the last day of the school and the annual Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony. As families were eager to continue this beloved tradition, a team of faculty staff arranged the 2020 Eighth Grade Promotion celebration, which went from morning to night.

To mark this Middle School milestone, each eighth grade family was invited to the Hilltop for an individual promotion ceremony. Head of School Mark Davis, Head of Middle School Amber Berry and several Middle School faculty members excitedly greeted each eighth grader, who received a certificate on the Be Kind Plaza and had their photo taken.

In the evening, there was a watch party of a video that included special messages from MS faculty, a parent, and students; a “look back” montage; and MS superlatives. This was followed by an eighth grade Zoom gathering with online games run by MS faculty.

St. Luke’s parent Carla Samardzija reflected on the day, “Thank you so much for the thoughtful promotion — from the masked handoff of locker contents to watching Sylvia stand in the sun with her smile and Emil Bucci award — it was perfect. Talk about SLS knowing how to ‘make lemonade.’ We appreciated the balloons, the social distancing at the Be Kind Plaza, the smiling traffic guys, the sun, seeing teachers, and the special announcement by Amber Berry, which made it feel like our daughter was very special and appreciated.”

Berry commented, “From start to finish, it was a magnificent day. Many families shared their appreciation and said it was a great way to end the school year.”

A photo gallery of the day will be shared in next week’s eNews.
