MS Architectural Drawing Challenge

V. Parker
This week the Art Department launched the Middle School Architectural Drawing Challenge—to create a drawing of a building over break, and turn it into a tote bag when they return. MS students can draw any building they come across, whether a shack or a castle, found in another country, or right in their own backyard. This challenge was inspired by the many beautiful buildings in our nearby neighborhoods, and far away—from municipal buildings, to old movie theaters, to foreign temples.

Katie Holmes ‘23 and Jake Silver ‘23 stepped up as the Architectural Drawing Ambassadors to help lead this challenge. On Thursday morning, students were invited to the Art House to work with Ms. Wulfman and the Ambassadors, to pick up some quick tips. Any questions about the challenge can be directed to the MS art teachers, or to Jake and Katie.

Drawings can be based on a building the student observe, or can be “remixes” with parts of more than one real building mixed together to create an entirely new building. The final artwork can be submitted to either MS Art Chair Nancy Sarno or art teacher Haley Wulfman, no later than the morning of Wednesday, March 29. Students will then have the opportunity to transfer their architectural drawings onto their own tote bag.
