Baseball Cruise To Win Over GFA

Dan Clarke
The St. Luke’s Baseball team hit some fine form on Tuesday 4/18 to come away with a 10-1 victory over Greens Farms Academy.

The Storm would play a near flawless game at Bucci Field and would lead the Dragons from start to finish. Colin Meany ‘17 hit a two-run double to get things going and the home side tagged on another run to make it 3-0 after the first inning.

Oz Jensen ‘19 pitched a very solid game on the mound giving up just five hits and one run in his six innings. Head Coach Anthony Conte said of the sophomore: “He changes speeds very well, keeps hitters off balance and does a great job controlling the run game. He's got great pace and energy when he's on the mound. It's contagious throughout the defense and the dugout.”

After adding one run in the fourth Luke’s would enjoy a huge sixth inning to put the game to bed when two walks and a fly ball led to a one-out intentional walk of Meany. That was followed by a big RBI base hit by Juan Velez ‘17 before Nolan O'Brien ‘19 came up with a bases-loaded triple to give SLS a 10-1 advantage.

A great afternoon for the home side was capped off by Mack Lemkau ‘20 who came in to pitch the seventh inning and struck out the Dragons side.

Conte added: “We are really proud of these guys. They are doing everything they can to get better every day. They trust each other and the process. Today was a total team effort. It's a good feeling and we have to build on it.”
