Softball Get Hot Against Wildcats

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s Varsity Softball team enjoyed a resounding 13-3 victory over Rye Country Day School on Wednesday 4/19 in the opening FAA game.

The game was moved to the home of the Wildcats due to weather concerns but that had little effect on the Storm team as Courteney Newman ‘18 drove in five runs in an impressive offensive display.

The defending FAA and Western New England Champions were coming off a tough loss to Cheshire Academy on Monday 4/17 but they bounced back in style with Kendall Boege ‘19 and Noelle Ruschil ‘18 both picking up two RBI’s to add to the team tally.

Emma Cropper ‘19 had a very solid day on the mound pitching six innings, picking up 19 first-pitch strikes and four strikeouts.

After the game, Head Coach Troy Haynie said: “Everything came together against Rye. We played solid defense and our bats were very active. It was an extra special win for us because it's the first time we have beaten that team in five years. I am very proud of the girls.”
