St. Luke's Athletic Kickoff A Huge Success

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s hosted the annual Athletic Kickoff on Thursday, September 7 to announce the start of the 2017-18 season for all SLS sports.

The event, hosted by the St. Luke’s Athletic Department and Parents’ Association Athletics/Storm Chasers Committee, was another huge success with many of our student athletes, coaches and parents coming together to enjoy the evening.

St. Luke’s Athletic Director, Mike West, talked about the importance of our multi-sport athletes to the success of our programs and the benefits of participating in multiple sports. He acknowledged the 121 students who represent SLS in two, and even three sports throughout the year. “Playing multiple sports not only provides an opportunity to have the camaraderie and team experience across seasons, but just as importantly alleviates the strain of repetitive motions and overuse that come from specialization. At St. Luke’s, we rely on and celebrate our multi-sport participants who allow us to field 19 varsity programs.”

The evening continued with breakout meetings for all our Fall teams. Coaches and parents from our Winter and Spring sports stayed around to chat and enjoy the refreshments.

Good luck to all our student-athletes and teams this year. Go Storm!
