St. Luke's Drops OT Thriller to AAA Power Lee Academy

Evan Downey
St. Luke's got off to a fast 17-2 start against AAA Lee Academy, but was unable to sustain their advantage, falling in overtime by one point.  Playing twenty minute halves and missing a starter, the short-handed Storm battled against an athletic Lee Academy squad and took a 12-point lead into haltime.  A cold start to the second half allowed Lee to erase the lead in the first six minutes.  Lee pushed their lead to as many as 8 points with 4:30 to go before an 8-0 run by St. Luke's tied the game with 90 seconds left.  After a defensive stop, St. Luke's took the lead against on a layup by Scott Vollmer off a Jonas Harper dish.  Lee hit a contested jumper to force overtime.  Both teams traded leads during the extra session with St. Luke's missing a last-second attempt to grab the win.  Harper led four St. Luke's seniors in double figures with 21 points.  Fellow captain Jackson Ryan joined him with 18, while Jackson Selvala added 15 and Andrew Varoli added 12.  Scott Vollmer chipped in 6 points, Cole Bryant added 5, and Jah'khi Washington added a bucket to round out the Storm scoring.  St. Luke's returns to the hardwood in the new year to face FAA rival Rye Country Day on 1/4.
