Boys Squash Battles To Tough Loss Against New Canaan High

The Boys Varsity and JV Squash teams kicked off the 2018 campaign on Thursday, January 11 with two tough losses to New Canaan High School.

Cameron Hill ‘21 and Ned Cunniffe ‘20 enjoyed comfortable wins for the JV squad before Thomas Besgen ‘20 won a thrilling encounter 3-2. Besgen raced into a 2-0 lead but then had to fight off a spirited comeback from New Canaan’s Doyle Catlin to take the deciding game. The remaining matches went to NCHS who prevailed with a final score of 4-3.

Varsity captain Logan Diliberto ‘18 set the bar high for his final season with an impressive 3-0 win to give the Storm an early 1-0 advantage against the Rams. Thomas Bailey ‘22 then completed a dramatic comeback from 0-2 down in an epic 5-game marathon.  

Seniors Ian Thomas and Dennis Polyakov showed that they will have much to contribute in upcoming contests but both dropped very close matches 1-3.

The Rams eventually closed out the Varsity match with a final score of 5-2.

Next up: Boys Varsity Squash is back in action on Thursday, January 18 with another home contest against FAA rivals The King School. Boys JV is back on the court on Tuesday, January 16 at New Canaan Country School before facing King on Thursday, January 18.
