Over 40 people attended St. Luke’s College Athletic Recruitment Information Night on Thursday, January 25. The event was hosted by a panel of St. Luke’s experts including:  Athletic Director Mike West, St. Luke’s Boys and Girls Varsity Lacrosse coaches, Andy Towers and Caitlin Copelan, and College Counseling Director Sonia Bell.

West shared his personal experience as a water polo recruit at the University of California, Berkeley and offered advice for anyone seeking to be an exceptional student athleteTowers, a former Dartmouth Lacrosse coach, was also recruited as a college player and described some of the choices he made to play at Brown University. Towers also highlighted some of the characteristics college coaches look for in student-athletes. Copelan was recruited by the University of North Carolina to play Lacrosse and offered advice about what young athletes should do now to maximize their chances of being recruited at the college level.

Director of College Admissions Sonia Bell offered a different lens. Bell has guided many student athletes and stressed the importance of finding the right academic and cultural fit, while also searching for the best team and coach.

“The college recruiting process is complicated,” said West. “It was important to set aside time for families that are serious about pursuing athletics in college. Our hope is that everyone walked away feeling better prepared to navigate their recruiting experience. We’re incredibly fortunate to have the deep expertise offered by Coach Copelan, Coach Towers and Sonia Bell. ”
