St. Luke's Defeats GFA in FAA Showdown for Second Place

Evan Downey
St. Luke's Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Greens Farms on the road 81-69 Thursday evening. St. Luke's came out swinging to take an early lead 10-3 before the Dragons settled down and both teams traded leads for most of the first stanza. The Storm took a commanding lead with under two minutes to go, but the Dragons responded with a 5-0 burst to narrow the margin to 35-33 at the half. St. Luke's never trailed in the second half and managed to push the lead out to 17 before a late Dragons run accounted for the final 81-69 margin. Senior Co-Captains Jonas Harper and Jackson Ryan led the Storm with 44 combined points. Harper's 27 gave him sole possession of 3rd place on the St. Luke's All-Time Scoring List with 1339 career points. Jah'khi Washington finished with 10 points for St. Luke's, including two corner threes and was enormous on the glass. Cole Bryant came off the bench and played with confidence at both ends of the floor. His 13 points were a new career high. Andrew Varoli, still fighting illness, scored 7 points, while Jackson Selvala added 4, Scott Vollmer scored 2, and John Wisdom hit a free throw to round out the Storm attack. St. Luke's returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon for its final regular season home game. We will honor our senior class, a group who played an important role in two straight FAA regular season championships, two straight FAA tournament championships, two straight NEPSAC tournament championships, 92 team wins, and a 42-game FAA winning streak. Tip is at 3pm.
