Boys Squash Scoop Consolation Plate At Nationals

Dan Clarke
The St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Squash team finished ninth overall and scooped the consolation plate at the 2018 Head US National High School Team Championships.

Playing in Philadelphia over the weekend of February 2-4, St. Luke’s lost its opening match to Fordham Preparatory School but bounced back to win three straight.

Despite losing number one seed Dennis Polyakov ‘18 to injury St. Luke’s produced an excellent performance in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Boys Latin School of Maryland on Friday evening. Polyakov returned the following day as the Storm beat University School (OH) 5-2 before another impressive 5-2 victory on Sunday, February 4, against Williston Northampton School.

Co-captain Logan Diliberto ‘18 and Ian Thomas ‘18 enjoyed superb tournaments winning three of their four matches. Toby Bloch ‘23 was outstanding for the Storm as he went undefeated over the course of the weekend.

On the girl’s side, St. Luke’s was missing two players from its starting lineup due to injury but battled the entire weekend to finish 16th overall in division three. Caroline Pellegrino ‘21 was in fine form winning all her four matches.
