St. Luke's Seniors Lead Storm Past Rye on Senior Day

Evan Downey
St. Luke's Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Rye Country Day School 74-67 on Senior Day to move to 10-2 in FAA Play and 14-5 overall.  Both teams traded leads for the opening minutes before St. Luke's took a 12-10 lead that it would never relinquish.  Rye managed to keep the score close throughout and lowered the margin to as little as three at the half.  St. Luke's began the second half on an 8-0 run, holding the Wildcats scoreless for the first two minutes.  The working margin proved to be enough as the Storm cruised to a seven point win.  St. Luke's was led by senior guard Andrew Varoli who finished with a career high 26 points.  Fellow seniors Jonas Harper (15 points), Jackson Sevala (12 points), and Jackson Ryan (10 points) joined Varoli in double figures.  Harper's 15 points moved him into second place on the Storm All-Time Scoring List behind Walter Whyte '17.  Cole Bryant chipped in 5 points, John Wisdom added 4, and Scott Vollmer scored 2 to round out the Storm attack.  St. Luke's returns to the hardwood on Tuesday afternoon for a return game at Rye.  Tip is at 5:30pm.
