St. Luke's Uses Suffocating Defense to Down Rye

Evan Downey
St. Luke's Boys Basketball gave its most complete defensive effort of the season to defeat FAA Rival Rye 82-41 on Tuesday evening.  After a close call against the Wildcats on Saturday, the Storm knew that their defense would have to be much sharper to defeat Rye on their home floor.  St. Luke's allowed on seven first half field goals to take 40-20 lead into halfime.  The Storm's effort and execution in the second half was even better as they held the Wildcats without a field goal for more than six minutes.  Senior captain Jonas Harper led the Storm with 23 points.  Four other players joined him double figures.  Cole Bryant added 12 points, Jackson Ryan scored 11, and Jackson Selvala and Jah'khi Washington each chipped in 10.  Scott Vollmer scored 8 points off the bench, while Andrew Varoli added 5, John Wisdom scored 2, and Nick Brown hit a free throw to round out the Storm attack.  St. Luke's plays its last regular season game of the season at Masters on Thursday.  Tip is at 5pm.
