St. Luke's Field Hockey Quintet Scoops National Awards
Five St. Luke’s Varsity Field Hockey players have been named in the 2017 Keith Waldman – Optimal Performance Associates/National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School National Academic Squad.
The High School National Academic Squad program recognizes high school seniors and juniors who have achieved a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.50 out of 4.0 or the equivalent through the first quarter of the 2017-18 school year.
Sophia Feldman ‘18, Hannah Haden ‘18, Katie Barton ‘19, Kendall Boege ‘19 and Tyleigh Zammit ‘19 were among a list of 2,765 student-athletes from 343 high schools across the country to be honored. Haden was one of 851 student-athletes to receive the Scholar of Distinction designation in 2017. This award is given to seniors and juniors who have achieved a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.9 out of 4.0 or the equivalent through the first quarter of the 2017-18 school year.
Haden was thrilled to receive the award. “I love the field hockey team here at St. Luke’s and I love the sport—so it’s really great to be recognized in this way for both my accomplishments on the field but also my academics,” she said.
The field hockey season is extremely demanding with 20 games throughout the fall and lots of traveling to and from the various schools. Haden believes her time-management is key to her success on and off the field: “It can be very difficult during the season to manage my time as we have a lot of games and later practices. I think the biggest thing is prioritizing and not putting one above the other, so I have to plan my schedule accordingly.”
