St. Luke’s Seniors Advance To National Merit Scholar Finals

V. Parker

St. Luke’s seniors Dominic DeMarco and Ajit Akole were named National Merit Scholarship Finalists, and each received a Certificate of Merit.

About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Students qualify by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of 15,000 Finalists includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. From that pool, 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners will be selected.

Ajit and Dominic will have to wait until next month to find out if they are among the winners. Head of School Mark Davis commented: "These young men consistently demonstrate the value of hard work and perseverance. Ajit and Dominic capture a work ethic and spirit that enable a relatively small school like St. Luke’s to secure two places in a highly competitive national program."
