Midnight Run: Helping the Homeless

The Class of 2018 participated in the Midnight Run by distributing food and clothing to those who are homeless in New York City.
It wasn’t long ago we had wintry weather and St. Luke’s seniors headed off to NYC for the Midnight Run where food and clothing were distributed to those who are homeless. Preparations for the event started months earlier as the entire St. Luke’s community donated much-needed items including clothing, personal care items, and backpacks.

The senior class community service project took part in two Midnight Runs. The students were all involved on committees including publicity, food prep (assembling 300 lunches), sorting clothes (which included labeling each item and bagging 150 toiletries kits) and loading the vans.

Upper School Health and Wellness Coordinator Camille DeMarco-Havens who oversees this event said, “Over the two runs many jokes were told, songs were sung, and connections were made. We ended each run with words of gratitude knowing that we made a difference in someone’s life that day. The Midnight Runs not only allowed us to distribute food and clothing but gave us the chance to engage in good conversations and show we cared.”

Thank you to all who made this year’s Midnight Run possible. A special shout out to: Faculty chaperones Chris Phelps, Jim Yavenditti, Brinley Ehlers, Noel Thomas, Sonia Bell, Troy Haynie, and Dale Griffa (who also served as the Co-Leader 2018 Senior Class Community Service project); St. Luke’s parents and our Midnight Run project leaders Vicki Sudano and Wendy Lipp; senior student project leaders; Chris Clark, Dan Greco and the entire FLIK staff; Mike Laskowski and the Facilities team; and the St. Luke’s community for all the generous donations.
