St. Luke’s Singers Selected for CMEA Choirs

V. Parker
Amelia Wyckoff ‘18, Michael Crispi ‘19, Zaire Profit ‘21 and sixth graders Joe Derr, Nailah Profit, Calum Regan, and Ava Waldman represented St. Luke's at the All-State Choirs.
Sweet sounds of singers from around the state gathered together to participate in the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) All-State Mixed Choir and Elementary Honors Choir. This audition-based and invitation-only event brings singers from all reaches of Connecticut to sing under the direction of highly lauded conductors each year. Music Department Chairs Dale D. Griffa and Katie Kaplan chaperoned the St. Luke’s singers in both the All-State Mixed Choir and the Elementary Honors Choir (EHC) which took place at the Hartford Convention Center from April 19-21.

Amelia Wyckoff ‘18, Michael Crispi ‘19, and Zaire Profit ‘21 represented St. Luke’s Upper School and sixth graders Nailah Profit, Ava Waldman, Joe Derr, and Calum Regan were selected from St. Luke’s Middle School choirs to participate. Ava Waldman and Nailah Profit were then selected from the entire choir to be soloists for the EHC opening number “Kenyan Welcome Songs.”

Griffa said, “I am so proud of our singers. Amelia, Michael, and Zaire were amazing ambassadors of our music program and St. Luke’s. This year’s choir was almost 200 singers from around the state. They also join a select group of St. Luke’s singers who have participated in the CMEA CT All-State Mixed Choir since 2007.”

Kaplan said, “I am incredibly proud of the four sixth graders who went to the EHC. They showed passion, dedication, and drive while attending many early morning rehearsals to learn their music before the day of the performance. While in Hartford, our students represented St. Luke’s with poise and sang their hearts out. It was as much a treat for me to watch them sing with 250 other singers from around the state as it was for them to partake in this opportunity.”
