St. Luke's Girls Tennis Claim Third-Straight FAA Title

Dan Clarke
The St. Luke’s Girls Tennis team collected its third-straight FAA Tournament Doubles Title on Monday, May 14 at Greens Farms Academy.

Elizabeth Laub ‘18 and Cierra Kitt ‘19 put on a masterclass of doubles tennis with an 8-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the championship game.

Laub and Kitt got off to a perfect start in their first match of the day winning 8-0 against Sacred Heart's #2 doubles team before an 8-3 win over Holy Child in the quarterfinals. They advanced to the final with another 8-3 win over Greenwich Academy but saved their best tennis for the final.

The Storm made light work of opponents with some ferocious serving, strong returns and sublime volleys throughout.

Laub previously played as the #1 singles for GVT but teamed up with Kitt (who won the doubles title the previous two years with Hannah Amendola '19 and Cayley Stonehouse '17) for her final campaign at St. Luke’s. The pair has enjoyed a tremendous season dropping only two matches along the way.

Laub said: “I couldn't think of a better way to finish my final season at St. Luke's than winning the doubles title. Cierra and I have both worked extremely hard this season. I was recovering from surgery and Cierra had to adjust to yet another doubles partner. It feels great to know that the hard work has paid off.”

Kitt said: “Being a three-time FAA champion feels great. I really can’t believe it and the encouraging words of parents, coaches & teammates played a huge part. I obviously couldn’t have done it without Hannah, Elizabeth, and Cayley. They’re all so amazing.”

Laub and Kitt are now preparing for the upcoming New England Prep School Tournament which takes place on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20: “This team has given me so much over the past five years” Laub added: “I'm just so happy to have won a trophy for them. I'm hoping our success will continue this weekend as we compete for our third straight New England Championship.”
