St. Luke’s Faculty Awards & Fond Farewells

Last Friday St. Luke’s faculty and staff gathered for the annual year-end meeting that included individual awards and farewells. Head of School Mark Davis shared some remarks and, along with Assistant Head of School for Leadership & Innovation Jim Foley, presented awards to some of our exceptional faculty and staff members.

The Dr. Joseph R. Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award went to Middle School Science Teacher (and St. Luke’s alumna) Carrie Van Atten ‘92. This Teacher of the Year Award is given to a full-time teacher who exemplifies the ideals of St. Luke’s through excellence in the classroom, service to the total School community, and dedication to the well-being and growth of St. Luke’s students.

The St. Luke’s Crusader of the Year Award was given to Theatre Technician and AV Specialist John Conners. This award is given to the full-time member of the faculty or staff whose contribution to St. Luke’s far exceeds that which is expected of him, thereby enriching the life and effectiveness of the School.

The Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award went to Matt Bavone who wears two hats here on the Hilltop—Classics teacher and Academic Technologist. This award is given to an innovative member of the St. Luke’s community whose work has made a significant impact on the St. Luke’s student experience and in the development of a culture of innovation at the School.

Departing faculty heading off to new adventures were each given a fond farewell. Those included two retirees: Upper School English Teacher Mark Bisson and Band Teacher Bob Leinbach. Between these two St. Luke’s Blues Band legends, they have taught a total of 56 years here on the Hilltop!
