Global Learning: Students in France & Argentina

On June 12, seven St. Luke’s students, along with M. Downey and Dr. Bramlett, arrived in Paris as part of the Center for Leadership’s global exchange program. They are visiting our partner school, Saint Michel de Picpus, and exploring all Paris has to offer. Their first day began with a lesson in baking. M. Downey wrote, “We started the day learning how to make Parisian macarons. Did you know that a macaron gets its perfect crunchy shell and soft inside because the baker lets the cookie and filling ‘rest’ for 24 hours before it is served?” The experience continues with their French host families, a trip to Versailles and other sites in the capital region. The France trip will conclude at the Mediterranean with a few days in Nice.

Our intrepid Argentine travelers are just off to Buenos Aires at the end of this week. After being warmly welcomed by our Argentinian partner school, St. Martin in the Fields School, St. Luke’s students and chaperones, Sarah Blanton and Susan Sarrazin, settle in for a two-week stay in the country. Students will attend classes, and share presentations about American culture, including topics such as the United States in the 1960s, American sports, traditional dancing, and more. The St. Luke’s group will also explore Buenos Aires, visit an estancia (cattle ranch) in the town of Tigre, and take a short trip north to the magnificent Iguazu Falls before returning home at the end of June.

Next year, St. Luke’s Center for Leadership will have more exciting adventures. Chinese exchange students will arrive (possibly in the fall), and a group of St. Luke’s student will head to China over the March break to visit our partner school in Shanghai.

Additionally, those interested in furthering their scientific research skills can join a new trip St. Luke’s will offer next June to the Pyrenees, where students will work alongside researchers studying wildlife change in the Andorran Pyrenees.

More info on both of programs will be shared in the fall. If any families are interested in hosting one (or more) of the 15 Chinese exchange students or want additional information about St. Luke’s global programs, please contact Director of Global Education Beth Yavenditti at yavendittib@stlukesct.org.

Our students and chaperones are sharing their France and Argentina adventures on social media. Please follow our global trips on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter: #slsglobal.
