Summer Construction on the Hilltop

Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations Julia Gabriele shared the below construction update with St. Luke’s faculty and staff. We thought our families would enjoy it as well:

Subject: DUST ON THE HILLTOP—Episode 1: Let the games begin.....

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to keep you all updated on summer happenings and construction progression here on the Hilltop.

Many of you have been on campus for the Buck Institute or College Essay Writing workshop, so you've experienced the melodious hammering, the joyful chaos, and plastic partition magic first hand. But for those of you who haven't, we're well underway...

In the 6th grade hallway, the carpeting is installed in the classrooms and lockers have been painted. Sixth grade team, we'll be moving all your furniture and materials back in place shortly and your classrooms will be ready to go, even if you're not.

In the Humanities Building, demolition on the Middle School locker rooms/building of the new corridor access has begun. This will complete the final pieces of the building that we couldn't do when we were in session. In addition, the partition and temporary corridor in place by the new cafe has been removed. It's incredible to be able to look at the entire length of the hallway and see sunlight at the end!

On the Class of 2018 Turf Field, the plaza is taking shape nicely and all the retaining walls have been poured. Sidewalks will be installed around the perimeter this week. Crews are working from the outside in, leaving the central part of the field for parking and supplies related to the Humanities Project. As that finishes, and they pull off, the field crew will begin prepping the central area and getting ready for turf which should be arriving by mid-July.

The new Admissions Suite is warm, welcoming, and gleaming with possibility. Well, not yet, but it will be in about eight weeks. In the meantime, wall shoring up has begun, and wall taking down has happened. The bathrooms off the community court, as you knew and loved them, are gone. Shout out to Ginny Bachman, Meghan Miller and Mike Rupp who, being the incredible troopers they are, have relocated to Melissa Zurkowski's room and still, somehow, maintain smiles while welcoming visitors through all of this!

The new Math Drop-In Center/Office Area has a beautiful new window block cut into the hallway so walking by, one can begin to imagine a bright open space for students to meet with teachers and their peers.

As a reminder, please enter through the science wing (shout out to Nano Saulnier at our front desk who has been incredibly flexible, relocating there for the summer—and to BJ Casey who helps cover for her) or the door by the Forese Family Fireplace Commons when coming to school. The main entrance is blocked off to all traffic. This should be the case for the next month or so, so please plan accordingly.

PS--Because you know, for me, it's all about food, and as scattered as we are this summer with no easy route to one another, we at least can connect at lunchtime. Thankfully, our FLIK summer staff Chris Clark, Dan Greco, John Mcgovern and Nicole Manginelli have kept our spirits high with great food...here's a Demolition Pasta Salad recipe that we've enjoyed.
