5th Grade Trout Release

From 5th Grade STEM teacher Chris Mantz:

St. Luke’s 5th graders traveled to the Norwalk River (a small park on Old Mill Road, immediately off Route 7 in Wilton, CT) to release the trout that have grown in their science classroom throughout the school year. The students watched and studied our developing trout since receiving them from Trout Unlimited (Trout in the Classroom Project) as eggs in early November, all the way to the release of the young adults (ranging from 4"-5"). The students that attended this optional field trip really enjoyed releasing the trout into their natural habitat and said they gained a better understanding and appreciation for the challenges a small creature has to experience to succeed and survive—all things that the 5th graders had previously researched during their Trout Across America classroom projects, but many had never seen in real-life.
