St. Luke's World Language Expression of the Week

During the Town Meeting each week, four students present live translations in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin to fun phrases such as "The dog ate my homework," "When is vacation?," and "It's a piece of cake!"
Three years ago, St. Luke's World Language Department started having students share a World Language Expression of the Week. During the Town Meeting each week, four students present live translations in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin to fun phrases such as "The dog ate my homework," "When is vacation?," and "It's a piece of cake!" After each student speaks the expression in a given language, the entire community repeats it in unison, creating a resounding multilingual ambiance that energizes the room. This tradition began in the Upper School and due to its popularity, it was added to the Middle School Town Meetings too.

At the first Upper School Town Meeting this year, the 9th- to 12th-grade students were surprised by the appearance of recent graduate Dominic DeMarco '18, who briefly reprised his previous role as a World Language Expression of the Week presenter. This year's Upper School presenters are Carolina Warneryd ‘19 (French), Hannah Amendola ‘19 (Spanish), Chris Ayoub ‘19 (Mandarin), and Marco Volpitta '20 (Latin).
