St. Luke's Hosts Goodwill Game

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s hosted a Goodwill Game contest with members of the SLS program and the Middle East All-Stars on Wednesday, September 26, organized with the help of PeacePlayers International.

Head Coach Matt Ward teamed up with Brian Kriftcher, the global chairman of the board of directors for PeacePlayers International and founder of Stamford Peace Youth Foundation, to help organize the event.

PeacePlayers Middle East engages Arab and Jewish children, coaches and key local stakeholders in long-term sport and peace-building activities, providing a framework for developing intergroup friendships, changing negative stereotypes and acquiring skills to be leaders who transform their communities.

Ward said the event was a huge success: “To hear about the experiences that these young ladies have had, and to see how basketball has helped change their lives, not only puts things into perspective, it shines a whole new light on the game that we all love to play.  One of the girls said, 'Our language is basketball.' That's something that I'll never forget, and I hope that getting the opportunity to meet each other, and play a game together that they all enjoy and love so much, is something that they will never forget."
