St. Luke’s Alumnus Jonathan Salamon '10 Wows School Community

V. Parker
Jon Salamon ’10 returned to the Hilltop in early October to masterfully play the harpsichord for St. Luke’s students, faculty, and parents. Salamon, who attended St. Luke’s from 5th-12th grade, got his undergraduate degree from New York University with a major in Piano Performance and a minor in Law & Society. In 2017, he received his Master of Music degree in Harpsichord Performance from Yale University and is now working towards his doctorate in Musical Arts there.

St. Luke’s parents and faculty first heard Salamon play at the State of the School where he gave a breathtaking performance of Joseph Haydn’s “Capriccio in G major, Hob. XVII:1.”

Salamon spent the better part of the next day meeting with Middle and Upper School music students talking about what led him to study music and play the harpsichord. Students had the chance to hear him play, ask questions, and get an up-close look at the instrument. To illustrate that the harpsichord is a contemporary instrument, he shared examples of popular songs that use it and played his own rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.”

Salamon shared more about his personal journey in “The Paths to Yale: Lessons in College Admissions” Leading Voices blog by Director of College Counseling Sonia Bell.

Salamon will be performing a harpsichord recital at Yale School of Music’s Sprague Memorial Hall on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1:30pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
