Celebrating Frankenstein’s Bi-Centennial with Tales of Terror

VGP
From English teacher Jenn Sproule:

St. Luke’s Upper School students celebrated the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein by participating in the “Ghostwrite” contest, sponsored by the English Department. During the week of October 22, students wrote original short stories exploring themes relevant to Shelley’s masterpiece, including technology gone too far and nightmares come true. The English Department spent the following week reading all submissions to determine grade-wide finalists.

On Thursday, November 8, Upper Schoolers gathered in the Seldin Performing Arts Center for a special ceremony. After the four contest winners were announced and given annotated copies of Frankenstein in recognition of their achievement, selected stories were read aloud to close the contest and celebrate all participants.

“It’s great that all of the students were able to exercise their creativity while at the same time paying tribute to an iconic piece of literature,” noted Upper School English Department Chair Steve Flachsbart.

Congratulations to winners Liz Fleischer ‘22, Jackson Hart ‘21, Marco Volpitta ‘20, and Kendall Boege ‘19.
