MS Artwork of the Week: Ella Thomas '25, Ainsley Birmingham '25

Nancy Sarno
Ella used oil pastels, which she blended and mixed in such a dramatic way to paint this beautiful and mysterious city scape—an image that she did completely from her imagination.  Creating artworks from the imagination is one of the most revered forms of art making and something that there is never enough of in the world.

Ainsley's free, painterly brushstrokes and vivid choice of colors evoke the magic of a beautiful sunset. The way she dripped paint across the deep purples almost reminds one of constellations among the stars. At a friend's suggestion, Ainsley bravely chose to mix neon colors to portray a blazing sun behind the elephants. Isn't that an effective choice?

Congratulations, Ella and Ainsley!
