St. Luke's Debate Hosts Tournament and Qualifies for CT State Competition

VGP
From Debate Coach Frank Henson:

On Saturday, Dec. 8, St. Luke’s hosted a Connecticut Debate Association tournament, with 182 debaters, representing 15 area schools, debating the resolution, “Internet companies should not moderate users and content unless such content is illegal.”

Debating for St. Luke’s were teams Amelie Warneryd '20 and Marco Volpitta '20, Ruth Mercedes '20 and Laura Mercedes '20, Chris Walsh '20 and Lily Tencic '20, Jerry Rutigliano '20 and Cate Mathews '21, and Amanda Millar '22 and Aisha Memon '21.

St. Luke’s faculty members Beth Yavenditti and Lisette Soto, and St. Luke’s parents Ingrid Warneryd and Donna Volpitta organized the event and graciously lent many hours preparing and planning to feed all 182 debaters plus judges. St. Luke’s former parent Patty Kekedjian and current parent Ron Gutstein judged at the event.

At the tournament, the team of Amelie Warneryd and Marco Volpitta qualified for the Connecticut State Tournament, to be held in March 2019.  Amelie and Marco are last year’s State Champions.  The team of Ruth Mercedes and Laura Mercedes qualified for States in an earlier tournament.

Thanks to all who made our hosting a success!
