Holocaust Survivor Shares Her Story

V. Parker
Before the winter break, St. Luke’s 8th graders gathered in the Wyckoff Family Black Box Theatre to hear powerful and moving stories from Holocaust survivor Judith Altmann. At 94 years old, Altmann returned to St. Luke’s Hilltop to talk about her harrowing experiences as a Jewish teen in a Nazi-occupied country.

Altmann was living the life of a regular teenager in Czechoslovakia, when she was forced into a Nazi concentration camp at 14 years old—the same age as some of the students listening to her. For five years, she endured cruelty and great hardships that were inflicted upon millions during Hitler’s reign. British troops liberated Altmann's concentration camp, but she was the sole survivor in her family.

She has traveled the world sharing her story as she believes it’s especially important for younger people to hear directly from a survivor of the Holocaust.
