Girls Varsity Basketball had its home opener on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, vs FAA opponent Greens Farms Academy.  The game was fast-paced, but St. Luke’s never lost the lead. The offense was paced by Caroline Lau ‘22 (25 points),  Janelle Johnson ‘20 (15) and Sydney Cummings ‘19 (9) in the 65-53 victory.

SLS was at home again on Monday, January 14 versus another FAA rival The King School. There was no stopping The Storm as every player scored!  Sophie Kriftcher ‘20 had the team high 11 points and Kiera Williams ‘22 chipped in 10 points. The final score was 72-32.

Up next was Cheshire Academy on Wednesday. January 16.  The Storm got off to a quick lead and never looked back. All of the players were able to get a good amount of playing time, as the starters took the bench early.  Johnson led the storm with 11 points and Cummings added 9. SLS wins 59-23.

Finally, on Saturday, January 19, the team participated in the Say Yes To Success tournament in the Bronx.  SLS competed against a talented Pingree team and came away with a 61-46 victory. Williams had a team-high 17 points. The defense was stellar.  The Storm moves to a 12-1 record!


SKI


The St. Luke’s Ski Team season is underway, with lots of cold weather making for ideal race conditions at Mount Southington, CT. This year’s team is led by senior co-captains Kirsten Pastore and Curtis Camp, both returning members to the Varsity team.

The 2018-19 team includes senior Hannah Dekker, juniors Harper Boege and Phoebe Kurth, sophomore Eddy Boris, freshmen Ellie Lyon, Keilan Rosow, Calvin Stuart and Sarah Volpitta, and Claiborne Beurle in the eighth grade.

Two-time All-State skier Phoebe Kurth demonstrated her remarkable racing skills, narrowly missing winning the girls January 16th race to Wilton’s Kira Howard. Kurth had two stellar runs, coming in second place overall out of a field of 128 racers with a combined time of 46.44 seconds. Teammates Ellie Lyon (28th), Kirsten Pastore (29th), Harper Boege (32nd), Claiborne Beurle (38th) and Sarah Volpitta (84th) helped the Storm girls earn their best team finish ever, a fifth place overall out of eleven schools.

On the boys' course, Eddy Boris led the charge for the Storm, finishing 47th with a combined time of 50.98. Cal Stuart and Keilan Rosow finished 64th and 125th respectively.

The next race is set for January 23rd at Mount Southington. Racing will get underway at 4pm.
