Voices and Verse at Special Teatime
From Upper School English Teacher Susan Doran:
The Feminist Literature honors seminar gathered in Susan Doran's parlor for an afternoon of tea, cheesecake, and conversation, preceded by "Voices and Verse," a recitation of poems from the pen of female writers.
Diverse poets from Maya Angelou to Sylvia Plath were highlighted and introduced by the senior girls, and each student gave a presentation on the writer and the memorized poem. The course is new this year and covered a vast array of literature for and about women including Shakespeare's Othello, writings by Virginia Woolf and Roxane Gay, and podcasts by author Chimimanda Adichie and US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith.
St. Luke's English department members Jen Sproule, Anna Birinyi and Emily Walsh also attended, as did Acting Head of School Julia Gabriele.
