The Dangers of Distracted Drivers

V.Parker
On February 7, St. Luke’s Upper School students had an assembly on distracted driving, and then all students had the opportunity to do simulation test drives in the Forese Family Fireplace Commons. This free program was sponsored by the CT Department of Transportation.

Upper School Dean of Students Matt Ward has this to share about the day:

Bringing this program to St. Luke’s is hopefully just the first step in ensuring that our students are safe behind the wheel. Distracted driving is extremely dangerous and happening every minute of every day in our world. Whether it's talking on the phone, texting, eating a sandwich, etc., there are so many things that can distract drivers, especially teenage drivers. The distraction doesn't just impact the driver; it can impact others in the car and on the road. Even if they aren't driving yet, our students should have the ability to recognize other's distraction, and have the courage to say something about it.

The program was a fun, interactive learning experience for our students. I'm hopeful that this is just the first step we take in helping to educate our students, faculty, and community about this issue.
