Model UN Highest Honor Goes to St. Luke’s Junior

From Model UN Advisor Abby Abbott:

At the most recent Model United Nations (MUN) conference, St. Luke’s junior Ruth Mercedes was named Best Delegate—the highest honor. Ruth was one of nine members from St. Luke’s MUN team who attended this event hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Students participated on a wide range of committees, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC), and the Disarmament and International Security Commission (DISEC). It was Ruth’s stellar diplomatic skills representing Germany on the IMF where she distinguished herself and earned the top honor at this event.

This conference was significant as it was the first and last for some of our team members. Ninth graders Will Winalski, Jack Reed, and Matthew Sherter did a great job participating in their first Model UN. Co-Founder and Co-President Mary Grace Thomas ‘19 ended her four years on the team on a high note with a strong showing at her final MUN conference.

Next up for the team is the biggest tournament of the year at Cornell University in April.

Congratulations to all our St. Luke’s participants: Lily Tencic, Mary Grace Thomas ‘19, Ruth Mercedes ‘20, Laura Mercedes ‘20, Tyler Dusek ‘21, Cameron Hill ‘21, Jack Reed ‘22, Matthew Sherter ‘22, and Will Winalski ‘22.
