Parent-Teacher Book Discussion: The Hate U Give

VGP
From Head of Middle School Amber Berry:

Forty parents and teachers gathered together for an evening of deep introspection and candid conversation about the book and film The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The discussion was lead by the heads of the Upper and Middle Schools.

We engaged in open dialogues and posed many questions about identity, circumstances, and our various roles in perpetuating systemic problems. This gathering of caring and concerned adults demonstrated our commitment to learning more about race and racism. Parents also had the opportunity to make connections between the book and the St. Luke's community by visiting the art gallery installation of the Civil Rights Trip photographs and reflections

We are delighted to come together as adults again on Saturday, April 13, from 1:00-4:00pm for the Social Justice Leadership Summit (SJLS) for parents. If you are interested in participating in the parent SJLS and have not registered yet, please email Center for Leadership Director Kate Parker-Burgard at parkerk@stlukesct.org.
