MS Artwork of the Week: Cassidy Cui '25, Brynn Cunningham '25, Sarah Marshall '25

Haley Wulfman
Congratulations to Cassidy Cui '25, Brynn Cunningham '25, and Sarah Marshall '25 for winning Artwork of the Week!

Cassidy's drawing is a good example of her skill at work- a head turned in a 3/4 view, making just a little ear showing on one side, and none on the other. She has made all of the lines on the head so that proportion and placement of features is just right. Not only that, she did this picture from her imagination. Furthermore, she does a lot of drawing in her spare time, which adds up to the fact that she is always improving!

Brynn's ceramic sculpture of an animal lies in still position, yet it feels almost alive and in motion - doesn't it? It may just be the way she allowed the form of the animal to emerge so directly from the material, leaving the prints of her fingers evident in its final form.

So too did the wood sculpture by Sarah Marshall emerge from a direct investigation of materials, but in a bit of a different way. One day, after painting the wood blocks over with acrylic paint, Sarah realized that if she timed it right and pressed the wet blocks onto newspaper, she could pick up their prints. The final design of this piece evolved from these explorations. A beautiful way to feature these wood blocks!
