Towers Thrilled With Boys Lax Leadership

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse team welcomes back many of last year’s squad and is looking forward to another exciting season under the tutelage of Head Coach Andy Towers again.

Towers returns for his third season and believes the hard work his players have been putting in will soon reap rewards: “Preseason was tremendous. The leadership of our captains Ned Cunniffe, Jerry Rutigliano, Sam Boston, and Jack Neafsey has been phenomenal. That said, I think the leadership from the team, in general, has been off the charts.”

Phil Platek ‘20, Thomas Besgen ‘20, Nick Brown ‘20, Wes Myers ‘20, Justin Pearl ‘21, Sully Franz ‘22, Dillon Mannix ‘22, Matthew Goldstein ‘22 are some of the players Towers is expecting to contribute to the success of the team, as well newcomer Andrew Lau ‘20: “Justin is arguably the best offensive player in the league. Phil is one of the greatest competitors in our program. His athletic pride and toughness are absolutely undeniable.”

The Storm had a difficult start with narrow losses to Canterbury School in its opening game and to Hopkins School on Thursday, April 4. That was followed by a heartbreaking overtime loss to Wooster School on Wednesday, April 10.

St. Luke’s picked up its first win of the season at home against Brunswick on Monday, April 15, but dropped another close game to Rye Country Day School on Wednesday, April 17.

The Storm is back in action on Wednesday, April 24 at Greens Farms Academy before hosting Hamden Hall on Friday, April 26 at 4:30pm.
