MS Artwork of the Week: Will Mathus '24, Avery Fleisch '24, Ava Waldman '24 and Tema Wagner '24

Haley Wulfman
Congratulations to Will Mathus, Avery Fleisch, Ava Waldman and Tema Wagner for winning Artwork of the Week!
Funny enough, Will's sketch emerged out of the Struggle or Triumph Kara Walker-inspired silhouette papercut challenge. When creating his papercuts, he was shading on the back of the black paper! After completing the piece he picked up a pencil and right away got to work on this one. The image, with all its textures and values, is entirely of his own design and he learned all the techniques independently.

Avery and Ava made this wonderful painting for the assignment to paint a part of the body with the added element of design. They chose hands, and added a great assortment of bracelets and rings, and then went further to show a dramatic pop art style fist bump.

As independent work, Tema painted a palette using the sophisticated idea of vintage colors, more subdued and a little dusty as opposed to the bright colors of today. She also did a wonderful job blending colors on the palette in a very painterly way.
